Neuropathy Treatments

Your spine holds all of  the weight of what you do every day, and all your body’s nerves branch out of it. Because of the nervous system’s dependence on the spine, any pain, tingling, or numbness that you experience in various parts of the body could be caused by a spinal issue. Treating common spinal problems could lead to alleviating these symptoms. Dr. John Goodrich of Lombardo Chiropractic uses multiple services to provide neuropathy treatment to the Ormond Beach, FL area.

What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy is dysfunction that is caused by nerve damage. Though it can occur from an injury, it can also develop over time through frequent wear-and-tear activities. Since chiropractic care is so well-associated with the spine, our doctors have a deep understanding of the nerves and how they’re connected through the nervous system.

Chiropractic Care and Neuropathy Treatments

Chiropractic care is dedicated to the musculoskeletal system, which includes how our moving parts and nerves all connect to one another and our bones. This gives a useful perspective for treating pain that is caused by aggravated nerves. Treatments currently available for neuropathy (and other nerve pain) include:

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy uses lower-level light wavelengths (only 600-700 nanometers). These lights prompt the cells below the skin level to release more energy, speeding up the rate at which damaged cells can be replaced with healthier cells. This is particularly useful with damaged nerve cells.

Spinal Adjustments

Neuropathy is often caused by nerves being pinched between the vertebrae along the spinal column should the discs become misaligned due to impact or wear. Spinal adjustments are the process of manually repositioning the vertebrae to their proper fit. Doing this can relieve any pressure that is being applied to discs or nerves that are caught between the vertebrae.

Therapeutic Exercise

Similar to spinal misalignments, other moving parts can pinch nerves and induce neuropathy. This can be from improper use, accidents, or gradual wear. Therapeutic exercise helps restore the proper range of motion to the applicable moving parts as well as strengthen the muscle to help support future movement.
