Spinal Decompression

If you live with chronic back or neck pain, Dr. Bruno, Dr. Lombardo, and Dr. Vecino at Lombardo Chiropractic in Ormond Beach, FL offer spinal decompression therapy and other techniques to help you achieve the relief you desire.

What Does Spinal Decompression Really Do?

In short, spinal decompression is a technique used to gently stretch the spine, but it does more than create a good feeling. As the spine is stretched, space is created between each vertebra and relieves pressure on all the surrounding soft tissues. It also creates a sort of vacuum, which not only pulls herniated or bulging discs back in but also pulls blood, nutrients, oxygen, and fluids into the spinal column. This promotes natural healing and helps “plump” the discs back up so that they can provide cushioning.

What Is Spinal Decompression Good For?

Herniated discs and sciatica are two of the most common conditions treated with spinal decompression, but they are not the only ones. Chiropractors also use decompression therapy for disc degeneration, pinched nerves, chronic back and neck pain, spondylosis, and more. If we feel your condition can benefit from the treatment, we’ll let you know.

Will the Treatment Hurt?

Decompression therapy should not create any pain. It’s actually a very relaxing procedure, so don’t be surprised if you fall asleep. If you do feel any pain, let us know as soon as possible, as this should not occur.

How Long Will It Take?

Each decompression session typically lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. However, we combine spinal decompression therapy with other methods of treatment to achieve optimal results, so your entire appointment will usually take a little longer.

How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?

The answer to this is largely dependent on your specific needs. Some people need as few as six sessions while others need more. We can better answer this question after our initial assessment. However, it’s important to keep in mind that we’ll monitor your progress. If the desired results aren’t achieved, the treatment plan may need to be adapted.
